Provisions Have Been Made
by Ann Robinson-Worley
Too often we feel as though we must somehow find the acceptable combination of actions and ideals that will make us acceptable to God. Not so! He has made all provisions for us in this life and the life to come.
To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge, to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness, to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love. For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins. Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:1-11
Faith Grace and Peace are available for everyone to receive. The Lord offers everyone the same measure of faith. For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. Romans 12:3
But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the right [the authority, the privilege] to become children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name. John 1:12
For it is by grace [God’s remarkable compassion and favor drawing you to Christ] that you have been saved [actually delivered from judgment and given eternal life] through faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [not through your own effort], but it is the [undeserved, gracious] gift of God. Ephesians 2:8
God's Grace is extended to all and is experienced by those who accept it. God's unmerited favor is freely given through his love gift of Jesus our Lord. The grace of our Lord [His amazing, unmerited favor and blessing] flowed out in superabundance [for me, together] with the faith and love which are [realized] in Christ Jesus. 1 Timothy 1:14 Peace is not a static state of well-being but one of continual on-going relationship with the Lord.
The peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Phil 4:7
As we live in this peace we can enjoy freedom from fear, agitating passions and moral conflicts. God's blessings of Faith,Grace and Peace will continue to grow in us as we experience the indwelling presence of the Lord. The Holy Spirit. Through His redemptive power we have received all that is necessary unto life and godliness.
His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue. 2 Peter 1:3
All provisions have been made for us. It includes "all necessary goods". Whatever is beneficial for our well being has been provided for. Our Spiritual prosperity is the key to God's treasure trove. Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. 3 John 2 Not only can we know Him in Faith, Grace and Peace but we can progressively know His power. To know means to experience it.
As we prosper through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit we can partake in everlasting life now. The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand. He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him. John 3:35-36.
For although physical exercise does have some value, godliness is valuable for everything, since it holds promise both for the present life and for the life to come. 1 Tim 4:8 God has issued an invitation to us to enjoy His Glory and Virtue. Glory means primarily all HE is and the results of His actions. Virtue or excellence is the way He flawlessly carries out his will.

We are called to be like unto Him in personality and actions. But as many as received him, to them gave he the right to become children of God, even to them that believe on his name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1:12-13 We were born of the Holy Spirit. This is the miracle of the new birth that we became the children or God. He has granted unto us his precious and exceeding great promises; that through these ye may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world by lust. 2 Peter 1:4 Because He has called us unto himself and we are to partake of His virtue and divine nature, we do not have to be slaves unto the weak and begardly things of life. The corruption, greed, lust and moral depravity of this life holds no power over those who have accepted God's invitation to share in His Glory.
Do you not know that when you continually offer yourselves to someone to do his will, you are the slaves of the one whom you obey, either [slaves] of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness (right standing with God)? Romans 6:16 Life holds no power over us unless we yield ourselves to it.
We know that our old self [our human nature without the Holy Spirit] was nailed to the cross with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin. Romans 6:6 We share in His divine nature, the supernatural nature of holiness and godliness as His chosen children. We are to cultivate that nature just as we used to cultivate the base nature of this world.
He has bestowed on us His precious and magnificent promises [of inexpressible value], so that by them you may escape from the immoral freedom that is in the world because of disreputable desire, and become sharers of the divine nature. For this very reason, applying your diligence [to the divine promises, make every effort] in [exercising] your faith to, develop moral excellence, and in moral excellence, knowledge (insight, understanding), and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, steadfastness, and in your steadfastness, godliness, and in your godliness, brotherly affection, and in your brotherly affection, [develop Christian] love [that is, learn to unselfishly seek the best for others and to do things for their benefit]. For as these qualities are yours and are increasing [in you as you grow toward spiritual maturity], they will keep you from being useless and unproductive in regard to the true knowledge and greater understanding of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 1:4-8
Ours is now a spiritual exercise that will add christian virtue and excellence to our lives. That virtue will produce Christian intelligence by making us think as He thinks.
So this I say, and solemnly affirm together with the Lord [as in His presence], that you must no longer live as the [unbelieving] Gentiles live, in the futility of their minds [and in the foolishness and emptiness of their souls] Ephesians 4:17
So prepare your minds for action, be completely sober [in spirit—steadfast, self-disciplined, spiritually and morally alert], fix your hope completely on the grace [of God] that is coming to you when Jesus Christ is revealed. 1 Peter 1:13
Self control and discipline will lead us to steadfast endurance and Christian stamina that will not fail or give up. God-like-ness comes from our ability to stand fast in Him. Therefore, my beloved brothers and sisters, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord [always doing your best and doing more than is needed], being continually aware that your labor [even to the point of exhaustion] in the Lord is not futile nor wasted [it is never without purpose]. 1 Cor 15:58
If we are are actively seeking to produce such God-lilkeness we will be fruitfull in our knowlege of the Lord and His will. Because we are or can be set free from the old sinful nature let us join our efforts to God's gift and make our calling sure and effective.
Therefore, believers, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you [be sure that your behavior reflects and confirms your relationship with God]; for by doing these things [actively developing these virtues], you will never stumble [in your spiritual growth and will live a life that leads others away from sin. 2 Peter 1:10
Until we allow His life and power to flow in us we will not realize its full effectiveness. Remember what Paul wrote when he said that we are Co-Laborers with Him. He said to them, “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest. Luke 10:2
